Binson Echorec

This Binson Echorec is from 1960 and it still works. This model is made for Scandinavian countries. I contacted the company – which isn’t the same as the original, how long the rotating drum would last. They said they didn’t know. They never had to repair or replace a drum!

The Binson Echorec is a legendary analog tape echo unit that was manufactured by the Italian company Binson in the 1950s and 1960s. The Echorec was one of the first tape delay units ever created and was considered a groundbreaking invention at the time.

The Binson company was founded in Milan, Italy, in the 1950s by Dr. Bonfiglio Bini. Bini was a physician and an inventor who had a passion for electronics. He created Binson as a way to combine his medical knowledge with his love for electronics, and the company soon became known for its innovative audio equipment.

The first Binson Echorec was introduced in the early 1950s and quickly gained popularity among musicians and recording studios around the world. The Echorec used a magnetic drum, which was coated in a thin layer of metal and rotated at high speeds to create a unique and warm echo effect.

The Echorec was particularly popular with guitarists, who loved its warm and natural sound. The unit’s ability to create a range of echo effects, from short slapbacks to long, atmospheric delays, made it a favorite among players in a wide range of genres, including rock, blues, and jazz.

Over the years, Binson continued to refine the Echorec, adding new features and improving its overall sound quality. The company also introduced several other popular audio products, including the Binson Varispeed, which was a popular tape speed control device used by many recording studios.

Despite its popularity, the Binson company eventually went bankrupt in the 1970s, and production of the Echorec and other Binson products came to an end. However, the Echorec’s legacy lived on, and it remained a highly sought-after piece of equipment among musicians and collectors.

In recent years, several companies have attempted to recreate the Echorec’s unique sound using modern technology, but many players still prefer the original vintage units. Today, the Binson Echorec is considered a classic piece of audio equipment and a symbol of the golden age of analog recording.

In conclusion, the Binson Echorec and the company that produced it, Binson, played an important role in the development of modern audio technology. The Echorec’s warm and natural sound has made it a favorite among musicians and recording engineers for decades, and its legacy continues to live on today. Although the original Binson company is no longer in business, its contributions to the world of audio equipment will never be forgotten.
